Gautam Gambhir had to leave Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after they didn't retain or used the Right-To-Match for the southpaw in recently concluded IPL 2018 auction. As per KKR management, Gambhir himself had told them not to bid for him.

The veteran left-hander will play for Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the upcoming IPL season. Early in the IPL, he was part of his home team, but later KKR picked him in 2011 auctions and it changed their fate.

KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan recently opened up about Gambhir's departure from the franchise. During a chat session on Twitter, Shah Rukh said that he will miss the services of Gambhir when asked about the out-of-favor Indian opener.

Gambhir had led the Kolkata franchise to two IPL titles. KKR's two IPL title wins is the second most with Chennai Super Kings (2 IPL wins) and after Mumbai Indians (3 IPL wins).

Kolkata bought 19 players in the auction and spent all their money in the process.
