Just a day after the IPL auction, Delhi Daredevils have named their bowling and fielding coach for the next edition of Indian Premier League. While former Australian all-rounder James Hopes will mentor the Delhi bowlers, ex-Assam and Railways cricketer Subhadeep Ghosh will join the team as the fielding coach.

The duo will now join the coaching staff led by former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting, who has been appointed as chief coach earlier this month. The rest of the coaching staff will remain the same, with former cricketers Pravin Amre and Sridharan Sriram playing the role of assistant coaches.

“For James (Hopes) it is a sort of homecoming as he has played for Delhi Daredevils earlier. Now he comes with immense experience both as a cricketer and a coach. He will be a great asset for the squad as we have some excellent young fast bowlers,” Delhi Daredevils Chief Executive Hemant Dua said according to Wisden India.

“Subhadeep (Ghosh) has been a specialist fielding coach for close to a decade at various levels in first-class cricket and the NCA. We are certain that he will add a lot of value to the squad,” he added.

As far as bowling coach James Hopes’ cricket credentials are concerned – he has represented Australia in 84 ODIs and 12 Twenty20, scoring 1326 and 105 runs beside scalping 67 and 10 wickets respectively. Hopes has also featured in the IPL for three teams, including the Delhi Daredevils in 2011. He retired from international cricket in 2016 before moving into a coaching role for his first-class side Queensland and Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BBL).

The fielding coach Subhadeep Ghosh has played domestic cricket for Assam and Railways. He has represented both the sides in a total of 17 first-class games and as many List A matches. Ghosh is currently serving Andhra Ranji Trophy team as a fielding coach. Earlier, Ghosh has been the fielding coach of Assam from 2009-10 to 2016-17.
