IPL 2018: Uncapped spinners set – Rajasthan Royals secure Gowtham Krishnappa for an eye-watering sum of 6.2 crores

A good set of spinners can run through a decent batting line-up especially on the Indian pitches. IPL has witnessed 17 hat-tricks thus far and 11 of them have been taken by the spinners. Franchisees got their eyes wide open as soon as the first set of uncapped spinners came in the auction.

Here’s how the uncapped spinners fared in the first round of IPL auction 2018:

Rahul Chahar

Rahul Chahar is the first man to come under the hammer on the second day of the auction. Defending champions Mumbai Indians purchased Chahar for INR 190 lakhs. The 18-year-old leggie entered into the auction with a base price of 20 lakhs.  

KC Cariappa

KC Cariappa is the second uncapped India spinner to come under the hammer and he goes unsold in the auction. None of the teams were interested in taking his services. He has represneted Kings XI Punjab in the cash-rich league.

Shahbaz Nadeem

Shahbaz Nadeem is the costliest buy so far in the second day’s auction as the Delhi Daredevils secured him for a whopping amount of Rs 3.2 crore. Nadeem was part of the Delhi team in the last edition of IPL as well.

Gowtham Krishnappa

Rajathan Royals secured the services of Gowtham Krishnappa for an eye-watering sum of 6.2 crores. The 29-year old has represented Mumbai Indians in the past and now till turn up for the inaugural IPL champions.

The spinner scored his maiden first-class century, batting for Karnataka against Assam in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy. Gowtham picked up two consecutive five-wicket hauls, against Delhi and Assam, helping his team win both the games in Ranji Trophy 2017-18.

Murugan Ashwin

Murugan Ashwin, who has represented Rising Pune Supergiant in the last two seasons, is now sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for 2.2 crores.

The leg-spinner came into the limelight after taking 10 wickets in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2016-16. He later got a fruitful reward as Rising Pune Supergiants ought him for INR 4.5 crores and now he will play under the leadership of Virat Kohli.

None of the eight IPL franchises showed interest to bid for Sai Kishore Ravi Srinivaasan, Tejas Baroka, Shivil Kaushik and J Suchith. Nonetheless, the teams will get another chance to buy the unsold players later in the auction.
