IPL 2018: Only one opening ceremony to inaugurate IPL 2018

IPL governing council decided to increase the budget for the opening ceremony of the mega tournament.

The majestic tournament of the country –Indian Premier League (IPL) –one of the most acknowledge tournaments across the globe,  is all set to spread its fever around the world with the opening ceremony on April 6 in Mumbai, with the tournament being played from Apil 7 to May 27. 

The tournament opener of the eleventh edition of the IPL will be played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings on 7 April at The Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai.

It is known that the opening ceremony of the glittery IPL tournament always have a memorable experience every season, as many Hollywood and Bollywood stars make the event more special with their fantastic performances as well as the presence of the beloved former and current players.

So far, the IPL opening ceremony was held in each of the eight home venues of the franchises, but this season it could be possible to have only opening ceremony, as the IPL Governing Council has decided to increase the IPL budget to 50 crore that previously was 30 crore, dividing between the eight centre for grand opening, to make the opening even more grand with some internationally starry affair.

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) have already allocated a given budget for the IPL 2018 opening ceremony but wants to have single ceremony instead of eight, in a bid to make the event more grand and special with the performances of the world-class stars.

According to a report in The Indian Express, a BCCI source said, “The IPL GC has taken the decision to increase the IPL budget to 50 crores. The BCCI felt in order to make it grand we will be needing stars from around the world. And if you want world stars to perform then you need the necessary budget. The Board has decided to do away with having an opening ceremony in each of the eight venues and have a grand event this time around.”
