IPL 2018: Virender Sehwag isn't surprised that Gautam Gambhir was not retained

KKR did not retained their two time IPL winning captain Gautam Gambhir for IPL 2018.

Sehwag talked about KKR not retaining Gambhir for IPL 2018

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises disclosed the name of players they would like to retain in the upcoming 2018 season. While others didn't let their valuable players go in the auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has released their captain Gautam Gambhir.

Former India cricketer and Gambhir's opening partner Virender Sehwag wasn't surprised at all like KKR fans.

As per Sportskeeda's interview of Sehwag, the veteran talked about it and said, "I was not shocked, because every team has their own thinking. I was not shocked when Delhi Daredevils did not decide to retain me after having played there for the past 6 years. I too was part of the auction then.

"I am not surprised. Many teams are parting with their old players because their price at the auction will be less, then maybe they might retain them. This could be their strategy of using RTM."

One more shocking decision had come from Kings XI Punjab. Leaving many star players, they decided to retain only their all-rounder Akshar Patel. Sehwag also spoke on the decision.

"I think an Indian player’s value is more in the IPL. When we recruited Axar Patel three years back, he was an uncapped player. He came to Punjab for ₹30 lacs and since then, has played for India. If he would have been part of the auction, he could have definitely fetched Rs. 8-10 crores. He is a useful player like Ravindra Jadeja. Axar is in his category," he said.
