IPL 2018: 5 players Rajasthan Royals should buy in the IPL 2018 auction

Rajasthan Royals won the first edition of IPL in 2008.

Rajasthan Royals won the IPL in 2008, a feat they will look to repeat a decade later

IPL 2018 will see more than 1100 players in the auction and includes 281 capped players and 838 uncapped players, including 778 Indians and three players from the Associate nations.

This IPL edition will also see the return of Rajasthan Royals back in the fold after two years. The winners of the 2008 edition, Rajasthan Royals were seen as one of the most financially astute franchises, which thrived on players who didn’t get chances in other teams and found talent on the maidans of Indian cricket scene.

However, to make a bid to win the IPL on their return, they need at least 5 big players that will form the core of their team and here are 5 such players, who they should go after in the auction:

Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc will bring some aggression to the calm RR team

Mitchell Starc is inarguably one of the greatest modern left-arm fast bowlers in the world. He played two seasons for Royal Challengers Bangalore and showed what he was capable of.  Starc bowls at high 140 kmph speeds and is capable of bowling some seriously fast toe-crushing yorkers. He can also bounce the batsmen out and with his aggression; he will bring a different side to the Rajasthan team, which is known for having cool and calm characters.

R Ashwin

R Ashwin has become a free agent after CSK didn't retain him

R Ashwin is one of the top spinners in IPL and was an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings setup for many years. Rajasthan Royals have always prided their spin capabilities and who better to lead their spin contingent than Ashwin. He has an astute cricketing mind and Rajasthan can also think of making him their captain. Anyways he will be an asset to the team, despite not part of Indian limited overs scene, Ashwin will look to performing in the IPL, go get back into the Indian team.

David Willey

David Willey will definitely be one of the best inclusions in the RR setup

David Willey is one of the best T20 players from England. He is a brilliant left-arm seamer, with the ability to swing the ball and has all the tricks that are necessary for the format. He is brilliant with the new ball, as he can easily swing the ball at the start and then is deadly with his slow balls and yorkers during the death overs.

Willey is also a handy hitter with the bat and has a century for Northamptonshire against Sussex. Rajasthan Royals will definitely be the place for Willey to show off all his skills and also play a role in developing the team after its two-year absence from the IPL scene.

Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane in RR colors will be a sight for sore eyes

Ajinkya Rahane is Rajasthan Royals’ spirit personified. He has been one of the best RR players over the period of last few years. He has opened the innings for Rajasthan and has also played a leadership role in absence of regular captains. A brilliant batsman with textbook technique, Rahane has adapted brilliantly to the T20 format over the time. Rahane returns back into the RR fold will be the best thing to happen to the team entering the IPL 2018.

Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar will be a hot buy in the IPL 2018 auction

18-year-old Washington Sundar was one of the best finds in the IPL last season, as he played a good role in the RPS team’s journey to the finals of the tournament. Filling in for injured R Ashwin, Sundar was brilliant without being spectacular. He kept the runs down in the middle order and bowled economically. We didn’t see much of Sundar with the bat, but he could be used right at the top to take advantage of the power play overs.

Sundar will fit right into the Rajasthan Royals’ culture of giving talent a platform and having him in the team will give big returns to the RR team.
