There is no surprise if the superstars of the gentlemen’s game across the world have the ambition of playing in the most popular T20 tournament of the world–Indian Premier League (IPL).
The upcoming edition of the IPL 2018 is on the cards and the franchisees have already retained their favorite players for the next season earlier this month, while the player’s auction for the lucrative T20 league will be held this month. Players, therefore, have started enrolling their names for the cash-rich league and many new players are in line to be picked up by different franchises.
Australian fast bowler –Peter Siddle, on Sunday, confirmed that he has thrown his name into the player auction for the upcoming T20 league in India.
Although the Test specialist has not played a limited-overs international since 2010, wants to be part of the game whether be it in IPL or County cricket. Previously, Siddle had put himself in contention but failed to attract any franchise, but now he is hoping to bag his maiden IPL contract especially after having a terrific season in the Big Bash League with Adelaide Strikers.
Siddle is one of 1,122 players – including 59 from Australia who will part of the IPL 2018 players’ Auction that will be held in Bengaluru on 27 and 28 January.
According to a report in the official website of Cricket Australia, Siddle confirmed, “I have put my name in the auction to how I have go. I'm a lot older now so I might as well put it in there to see how I go.”
He further added, “I've always put it in there to see how I've gone but you never know, do you? I just want to play cricket, whether it's in the IPL or it's in England playing county cricket, I'll do whatever.”
According to details of the upcoming auction that were unveiled yesterday, Siddle is not the only former Australian International who have forwarded his name to the IPL 2018 auction, but there are also his fellow pacer Mitchell Johnson and all-rounder Shane Watson named along with international veterans Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Lasith Malinga.
