The buzz concerning the retention of players for the next edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) has already gripped the Indian cricket fanatics and now to make the event all the more interesting, it will be telecasted live on TV with the new broadcasting partner – Star Sports.

The much-awaited IPL auction is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28 while the last date of submission for the player retention is January 4.

According to the reports in Bangalore Mirror, the officials of the respective IPL teams have been asked to be present in the garden city on Thursday evening. The reports further suggest that few of the 'retained' players can also turn up on the day.

Earlier, the retention process used to be carried out through formal e-mails from the franchises to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Since Star Sports has now secured the broadcasting rights, the entire event is set to be renovated. Cricket’s most lucrative tournament is to be projected as the 'toughest' twenty20 league in the world.

"The idea is to send out a message that the IPL is not just about money. A lot of effort is put in team-building and we want to start the IPL coverage through retention. The retained players form the core of the teams," a Star official was quoted by the Bangalore Mirror as saying.

Moreover, the two controversial IPL franchises – Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings will return to the cash-rich event after completing their two-year suspension. RR and CSK were barred from the IPL for the past two seasons owing to corruption and fixing allegations against their respective owners during the 2013 edition.

Earlier this month, it has been announced that all the IPL franchises will be allowed to retain a maximum of five players through a combination of pre-auction retention and Right To Match (RTM) cards.
