Rohit Sharma thanked recently fired batting coach Abhishek Nayar on Instagram for his comeback to form following his match-winning performance for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 on Sunday night.

Rohit, who had a tough start to the IPL season, recovered his form against the Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium. The swashbuckling opener scored 76 runs off 45 balls, including four fours and six sixes.

A day after his match-winning knock, Rohit posted a photo of himself from the game celebrating his fifty on his Instagram account, thanking Nayar in the caption.

Cricbuzz reported that Rohit and Nayar have been working together for some time, and their collaboration has extended into the current IPL season.

Sources close to Rohit and Nayar indicate that their work has continued both before and during the current IPL season. Rohit intends to play until the 2027 World Cup and is training with Nayar to improve his fitness and batting.

The BCCI released Nayar from the Indian team's support staff, which is managed by Gautam Gambhir. In addition, the BCCI has let go of three others: fielding coach T Dilip, strength and fitness trainer Soham Desai, and masseuse Arun Kanade. Coincidentally or not, all four are thought to be close to Rohit.

Nayar, who is generally regarded in Indian cricket circles for his understanding of current coaching techniques, has been blamed for the Indian hitters' poor performance in the BGT series in Australia. The BCCI has since chosen Sitanshu Kotak as the batting coach.

Many current players, notably Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, have supported Nayar's expertise, aside from Rohit. There is even discussion that certain elders are unhappy with Nayar's removal.

The fans also reacted to the harsh sacking of Abhishek Nayar and slammed the BCCI on social media.
