IPL 2022: "Have to put this behind us," Mayank Agarwal after PBKS' loss to DC

DC thrashed PBKS by 9 wickets in Mumbai.

PBKS | BCCI - IPL

Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Mayank Agarwal on Wednesday (20th April) reflected on the heavy loss his side suffered against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 32 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 in Mumbai. He said that they had to put this loss behind them and move forward.

PBKS suffered a thumping 9-wicket defeat against DC. Asked to bat first, the side got off to a flyer as they scored around 30 runs in just 3 overs with Agarwal (24) playing the aggressor's role. However, the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan (9) triggered the batting collapse for them as they were bundled out for just 115 runs.

Jitesh Sharma top-scored with the bat with 32 runs whereas every other batter failed to cross the 25-run mark. For DC, apart from Shardul Thakur, every bowler chipped in with crucial wickets. Akshar Patel was the standout bowler for his side and returned with the figures of 2/10.

Chasing the target, David Warner (60*) smashed his third consecutive half-century of the season to power his team to their third win of the season. He was well complemented by Prithvi Shaw (41) as the duo notched up the 81-run partnership for the opening partnership to set up the win for their side.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Mayank Agarwal said that it’ll be a tough defeat for them to swallow. He admitted they didn’t bat and bowl well and they’ll try to forget this match and move forward.

"It's a tough one. We did not bat or bowl well, we have to put this behind us. Losing too many wickets too early, but I do not want to dig too deep as the more we do it, the more the negatives that will come.

“180 was a decent score but we were well short of that. In hindsight, I could have given the spinners an over or two but did not at the time,” Agarwal said.

PBKS will next face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Monday (25th April) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
