Completing the suspended IPL 2021 and the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021 were the major points of discussion as BCCI conducted its Special General Meeting (SGM) virtually on Saturday (May 29).

In the meeting, it was decided that the remaining games of IPL 14 will be held in UAE. While the tentative dates are yet to come, the tournament will be played in the September-October window.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced to complete the remaining matches of VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year,” BCCI said in a media release.

“The decision was taken at a Special General Meeting (SGM) held virtually, where members unanimously agreed to resume IPL,” it added.

The 2021 edition of Indian Premier League was postponed indefinitely on May 4 after multiple COVID-19 cases were reported inside the bio-bubble of various franchises.

The now-suspended IPL 2021 saw only 29 games being held within four venues in India and there are still 31 matches left in the competition.

As far as T20 World Cup is concerned – BCCI will seek time from the ICC with more than four months still left for the global event.

“The BCCI SGM further authorised the Office Bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take an appropriate call on the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021,” the press release said.
