Ahead of the 2021 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players including skipper MS Dhoni hit the ground running with a preparatory camp.

The training camp got underway on Tuesday (March 9) after all the participating players cleared their RT-PCR tests during the stipulated quarantine period.

Apart from Dhoni, veteran batsman Ambati Rayudu, young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and a few others are part of the camp.

Tamil Nadu's N Jagadeesan, R Sai Kishore and C Hari Nishaanth, who was roped in during last month's auction, trained with the likes of Dhoni and Rayudu.

Medium-pacer Harishankar Reddy, who is another new recruit, was also present in the camp.

"The CSK players completed their quarantine requirements and began practice yesterday. Gradually, the others will join the camp after a period of quarantine," CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan quoted as saying by PTI.

Viswanathan also confirmed that a few others like leg-spinner Karn Sharma and Bhagath Varma, who was fetched during the auction recently are expected to arrive in the coming days.

CSK had a forgettable IPL 2020 campaign in UAE. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, the Chennai-based franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in the tournament history.

However, the three-time champions are looking to make a fresh start and bought the likes of Moeen Ali, Krishnappa Gowtham, Cheteshwar Pujara, among others at the auction last month.

IPL 2021 is due to begin on April 9, with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament opener at Chepauk.

CSK will open their campaign against Delhi Capitals on April 10 in Mumbai.
