IPL 2020: "We saw Virat Kohli at his very best", says Mike Hesson after win over CSK

The RCB captain found his best touch in an important 37-run victory in Dubai.

Virat Kohli | Twitter/Royal Challengers BangaloreRoyal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson, lauded skipper Virat Kohli after his "outstanding innings" helped the team pull off an important win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Dubai on Saturday (October 10).

After a slow start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, Kohli finally looked at his best, making impactful 90* off 52 balls to take RCB to an above par score of 169/4 given the slow nature of the surface. Kohli's men later defended their total with an impressive bowling performance, restricting CSK to just 132/8 in 20 overs.

Hesson, in a Twitter video posted via RCB's official handle, acknowledged how the captain led his troops from the front and showed them the way on what wasn't an easy pitch to bat on.

"A couple of partnerships at the other end but we saw Virat at his very best, that was an outstanding innings," said Hesson.

"It shows the value of having a set batsman, we have always talked about one of our top four being there to own those last five overs. It just showed what a class player Virat is. There is a lot of class there."

Head coach Simon Katich was equally effusive in praise for Kohli. Katich also appreciated the efforts of the bowling attack, the likes of Chris Morris (3/19), Washington Sundar (2/16) and Navdeep Saini (0/18), who ensured Kohli's terrific innings deservingly ended in a win.

"Virat stood up when we needed him the post, we knew the wicket was a bit slower as compared to the previous ones, so getting to 160 odd was a magnificent effort and Virat deserves a lot of effort not for his class and also the support he got at the other end from Sundar and Dube," Katich said.

"We know Washington Sundar has been great in the powerplay, for him to come later in the powerplay and take those two big wickets, it really set us up," he added.

RCB, now fourth in the points table with four wins and two losses, next face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Sharjah on Monday (October 12).
