IPL 2020: Mumbai Indians set to release four players ahead of the auction

IPL’s off season trade window is open till November 14.

Evin Lewis and Mitchell McClenaghan are likely to be released by MI | IANS

Having won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title four times, Mumbai Indians (MI) are certainly the most successful franchise in the lucrative competition. One of the main reasons behind their success is the planning, strategy and wise support staff.

The MI think tank have never shied away from taking tough decisions and with the fast-approaching IPL 2020 auction, they have yet again opted to make some changes in the squad which can help them free up some funds to buy more players.

According to a report, few names have surfaced who are likely to face the axe such as West Indies opener Evin Lewis and New Zealand speedster Mitchell McClenaghan.

Lewis has been part of the MI camp since 2018. While the destructive opener failed to deliver consistently in the 2018 season, he didn’t get much chance in the previous edition with the arrival of Quinton de Kock.

McClenaghan also had a miserable outing last year, claiming three wickets from five games.

IPL’s off season trade window is open till November 14 and the franchises will have to submit their final list of retained and released players by that date.

Aside from these two players, the defending champions are set to release Indian off-spinner Jayant Yadav and young batsman Anmolpreet Singh as well.

The release of these four players will not only increase Mumbai Indians’ purse but will also allow them to buy a couple of exciting players during the auctions, slated to held in Kolkata on December 19.
