Andy Flower had coached England to World T20 2009 win | GettyThe Indian Premier League 2020 is going to be a big tournament for each of the eight franchises involved in it. The teams are looking forward to making big and viable changes in their teams and indications are encouraging with the transfers that have happened in the players’ transfer window.

Many of the teams are looking to add and change some of their support staff as well and one of those teams is Rajasthan Royals (RR). The team had a woeful season in 2019, ending on the seventh spot with 11 points and are in the market for a new head coach.

If reports from telegraph.co.uk are to be believed, former England coach and Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower is leading the race to be appointed as the head coach of the Rajasthan Royals’ franchise for the upcoming season. Andrew Strauss and Clive Woodward are involved in the appointment of Rajasthan’s new coach.

The former Zimbabwe captain left England Cricket Board (ECB) a couple of days back after his 12-year association with the board, which further bolsters his chances of taking up the role in IPL. Flower had joined ECB as assistant coach of England team in 2007 and became the head coach in 2009, leading the team to World T20 win the same year and also defeated India in two series (Tests), both home and away.

But Flower left his position after Australia trampled England in Ashes 5-0 in 2013/14. Afterwards, he coached Peshawar Zalmi in Pakistan Super League and was named coach of the Faf du Plessis led World XI side which played Pakistan in Pakistan in 2017.

If he is appointed coach of RR, he will replace Paddy Upton, who has not been successful in getting the franchise another IPL title.
