Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) hosted Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday (April 24). KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin won the toss and chose to bowl first as the ground often aids chasing teams because of the dew factor.

RCB piled up a massive total of 202/4 thanks to a magnificent knock by AB de Villiers (82*) who was well supported by Marcus Stoinis (46*) and Parthiv Patel (43). RCB smashed 64 off the final 3 overs and that proved to be decisive in the end.

KXIP had a stiff target in front of them and for large parts kept in touch with the required run-rate. KL Rahul (42), Mayank Agarwal (35) and Nicholas Pooran (46) got off to great starts but could not go on to finish the job as RCB shut down the visitors in the death overs. David Miller struggled for a painful 24 off 25 balls. Umesh Yadav picked up 3 wickets and Navdeep Saini took 2 wickets to seal the game in their team's favour by 17 runs.

RCB registered their third consecutive win of the tournament and are now 7th on the points table. If they win their remaining games, they still can give themselves a decent chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

Virat Kohli,was visibly fired up towards the end of the game as his side closed in on a win. He took a great catch to dismiss Ashwin, and gave him a fiery send off from the boundary, perhaps taking a dig at his Mankading incident earlier in the tournament. The duo had been involved in a verbal exchange at Mohali as well when the two sides met earlier.
