Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has reacted on the conflict of interest issue, saying that he is not being paid by Delhi Capitals for his advisory role.

Earlier in the season, Ganguly was asked to respond over the conflict of interest allegations upon him. Sourav had joined Delhi Capitals as their advisor ahead of IPL 2019, while he is currently serving as president of Cricket Association of Bengal. It led to three specific complaints being filed against him by fans named Bhaswati Santua, Ranjit Seal and Abhijeet Mukherjee.

As per a report in TOI, Ganguly told BCCI ethics officer DK Jain that he is not getting paid as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal and also for being a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). Hence, he should not be barred from continuing in his advisory role with the Delhi-based IPL franchise.

Report also claims that board’s ethics officer, along with other BCCI legal experts, is exploring if ‘Ganguly’s interest’ could still be treated as a possible conflict even though money is not part of it.

In the last couple of years, the ‘conflict of interest’ has become a major topic of discussion within the Indian cricket fraternity. The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators running BCCI has been quite strict on the matters related to conflict of interest. That’s the prime reason why India coach Ravi Shastri doesn’t commentate in IPL games whereas India ‘A’ and U-19 coach Rahul Dravid had resigned as Delhi Daredevils’ head coach in 2017.
