Dale Steyn was at the top of his game in the IPL 2019 clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday (April 21).

Defending the total of 161, Steyn ripped through CSK’s top-order. The Proteas pace legend removed Shane Watson (5) and Suresh Raina (0) in successive deliveries of the very first over. Afterwards, Umesh Yadav got rid of Faf du Plessis (5) and Kedar Jadhav (9) to reduce CSK to 28/4 inside the powerplay.

Later, MS Dhoni’s jaw-dropping knock of 48-ball 84* turned the match on its head. Fortunately for RCB, the CSK skipper failed to connect the last ball as Parthiv Patel’s direct-hit ran Shardul Thakur out and sealed the victory for the home team by just 1 run.

After the match, RCB skipper Virat Kohli and Steyn interacted with each other for iplt20.com. Kohli told Steyn that he never thought of celebrating a wicket with him after RCB released the South African speedster in 2010.

“We have won three of the last four and that feels great. Feels amazing to be able to celebrate again with Dale Steyn. I never thought this would be possible after we parted ways in 2010,” Kohli said.

Bolstered by the return of Steyn, RCB have won their last two games. His successful comeback for the Bangalore-based franchise has also made the Proteas fast bowler nostalgic.

Recalling his early days with RCB when Virat was just a teenager, Steyn said: “It feels fantastic to be back with RCB and the social media posts bring back lots of memories and makes me nostalgic. It also shows how well you’ve done. This man (Kohli) has gone on taken and taken the world by storm and is one of the best players if not the best in the world.”

“I was lucky enough to watch him in the beginning when he was 18,” he added.
