Delhi Capitals hosted Mumbai Indians in the 34th match of IPL 2019 at Feroz Shah Kotla on Thursday (April 18).

Unlike the trend in the ongoing IPL, MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. Quinton de Kock (35 off 27 balls) and Rohit (30 off 22 balls) started the innings brilliantly, scoring 57 runs in the powerplay. Unfortunately for Mumbai, both of them got out in quick succession. MI lost the plot in the middle-overs before Pandya brothers – Hardik (32 off 15 balls) and Krunal (37* off 26 balls) – took the DC bowlers to the cleaners. The duo added 54 runs in 26 deliveries for the fifth wicket to help the visitors reach 168/5 in 20 overs.

In reply, DC got off to an impressive start with Shikhar Dhawan and Prithiv Shaw adding 49 runs for the first wicket. However, MI leg-spinner Rahul Chahar ruined Delhi’s stellar start by claiming three wickets in quick succession. Chahar got rid of Dhawan (35), Shaw (20) and Shreyas Iyer (3) while Krunal removed Colin Munro (3) to reduce DC to 63/4.

Rishabh Pant also failed to deliver under pressure as Jasprit Bumrah knocked him over for 7. The pair of Akshar Patel and Chris Morris added 31 runs for the sixth wicket but they couldn’t bring the required run-rate down. At the score of 107, DC lost three wickets. While Malinga and Bumrah dismissed Morris (11) and Akshar (26) respectively, Keemo Paul got run out.

Afterwards, it was just the formalities left for MI to complete the win. Malinga conceded 10 runs in the penultimate over whereas Hardik gave away 9 runs and dismissed Rabada in the last over as MI eventually restricted DC to 128/9, securing a resounding 40-run victory and also claimed the second position in the points table.
