Sunrisers Hyderabad hosted table-topper Chennai Super Kings in the 33rd match of IPL 2019 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday (April 17).

In the absence of regular skipper MS Dhoni, CSK were restricted to 132/5 in 20 overs. Opting to bat first, Chennai openers Faf du Plessis (45 off 31 balls) and Shane Watson (31) put up their best stand as they added 79 runs in 9.5 overs but the visiting team lost the plot in the second half. Stand-in captain Suresh Raina (13), Kedar Jadhav (1) and Sam Billings (0) failed to contribute much with the bat. Ambati Rayudu (25*) and Ravindra Jadeja (10*) added 31 runs for the 6th wicket to eventually help CSK cross the 130-run mark. For SRH, Rashid Khan was the most economical bowler, claiming 2/17 in his 4 overs.

In reply, Sunrisers got off to a flier, courtesy David Warner and Jonny Bairstow pulverizing the CSK bowling attack to all parts of the ground. In particular, Warner was severe on the opposition bowlers as he struck boundaries at will. The duo added 66 runs for the first wicket in just 5.4 overs before Deepak Chahar dismissed Warner for 50 off 25 deliveries (10 fours).

SRK skipper Kane Williamson once again failed to make a mark as Imran got rid of him for just 3. With the required run-rate under control, Bairstow played risk-free cricket and forged a 34-run stand with Vijay Shankar (7) to put the home team on the brink of victory.

Needing 28 off 46 balls, Deepak Hooda joined Bairstow at the crease. The pair added 26 runs before Hooda (13) threw away his wicket. Bairstow eventually remained unbeaten on 61 off 44 balls and guided his team over the line with six wickets and 19 balls to spare.

Cricket experts on Twitter were pretty impressed with SRH’s dominance over Chennai Super Kings in all facets of the game.
