Earlier Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to field first and left arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed playing his first match of this season gave them a perfect start by removing both openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw and Delhi were reduced to 20/2. Colin Munro and Shreyas Iyer rebuilt the innings but Munro couldn't convert his start into a big one and got out on 40 runs.

Later Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant's 56 runs partnership brought Delhi into the game but both the batsmen got out in the quest of some quick runs. In the end, Axar Patel and Keemo Paul's little cameos helped Delhi to post a good total of 155/7.

In the chase of 156 runs, Jonny Bairstow and David Warner gave a steady start of 72 runs in 10 overs but after Bairstow's dismissal Sunrisers Hyderabad lost the plot and David Warner also couldn't score quick runs and brought up his fifty in 46 balls. Kagiso Rabada dismissed David Warner and triggered the collapse and Hyderabad lost wickets after wickets and got all out for just 116 runs.
