Defending champions Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets in a low scoring match at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai and registered their fifth win in six matches of this IPL season.

Earlier on a slow dry wicket Chennai won the toss and asked Kolkata to bat first and Deepak Chahar gave them a perfect start by removing Chris Lynn, Nitish Rana and Robin Uthappa in his first three overs and reduced Knight Riders to 24/4. After losing so many quick wickets Knight Riders couldn't recover and except Andre Russell, no one could put up a fight. Russell's 50* runs off 44 balls knocks helped Knight Riders to post a small total of 108/9. Deepak Chahar took 3 wickets while Imran Tahir and Harbhajan Singh picked two wickets each.

In reply, Shane Watson started playing his shots from the first ball and hit two fours and one six in the first two overs but his innings didn't last long and Sunil Narine sent him back to pavilion. Suresh Raina too perished for 14 runs. Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudu's 46 runs partnership set the match for their team and in the end, Chennai chased down the target in the 18th over with the loss of three wickets. Faf du Plessis scored 43* runs off 45 balls and Deepak Chahar was named Man of the Match for his 3 wickets haul.
