Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) hosted 3-time IPL winners, Mumbai Indians (MI) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday (March 28). RCB captain Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bowl first on a ground that helps chasing teams.

Mumbai Indians posted a score of 187/8 in their 20 overs thanks to cameos from Rohit Sharma (48), Surya Kumar Yadav (38) and Hardik Pandya (32*). Yuvraj Singh turned back the clock briefly smashing three consecutive sixes off Yuzvendra Chahal, who finished with a four-wicket haul.

Royal Challengers Bangalore pushed Moeen Ali to open with Parthiv Patel and the duo gave a brisk start to their team. Virat Kohli (46) and AB de Villiers (70*) kept the required run-rate in control before Kohli and then Shimron Hetmyer were dimissed by Jasprit Bumrah.

De Villiers continued to take the other MI bowlers for runs but Jasprit Bumrah bowled a brilliant 19th over, conceding just 5 runs while taking the wicket of Colin de Grandhomme. With 17 to get off the final over, Lasith Malinga's experience proved to be too much for young Shivam Dube and AB de Villiers, as RCB finished at 181/5 and MI sealed a thrilling win by 6 runs.

However, there was a controversy on the final ball of the match when RCB needed 7 runs to win. Dube failed to hit the ball past the ropes that would have resulted in a super over, but in a replay that was shown little later, it was visible that Malinga had over-stepped by quite some margin. At this level, the mistake was unpardonable and the umpiring left much to be desired.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma criticised the mistake in the presentation ceremony as such things can prove to be very costly at the end of the tournament. It clearly left a sour taste in the mouth of everyone after a great match.

Cricket fraternity expressed disappointment at what happened and slammed the umpires for not doing their job well. Here are some of the tweets:
