IPL 2019: Match 1, CSK v RCB – Harbhajan and Tahir shine as CSK routs RCB on a rank turner

Suresh Raina became the first batsman to reach 5,000-run landmark in IPL.

Ambati Rayudu made 28 while Suresh Raina completed 5,000 runs in IPL | IANSThe first match of the Indian Premier League 2019 was played between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. The Madras Regiment Band performed prior to the toss and BCCI and CSK donated Rs 20 crore and Rs 2 crore respectively to the Indian armed forces.

MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first and went in with only three foreigners in his team. Kohli meanwhile revealed that RCB had given debuts to Shimron Hetmyer, Navdeep Saini and Shivam Dube. The match turned out to be one-sided, as the pitch turned out to be a spitfire and turned square.

Harbhajan Singh picked 3/20 in his four-over spell and Imran Tahir plucked 3/9 in his four overs. Ravindra Jadeja chipped with 2/15 and RCB were bowled out for just 70 runs. Only Parthiv Patel managed to score 29 runs to show some defiance.

Chasing 71 to win, Chahal removed Watson for a duck and RCB spinners too made life difficult for CSK batsmen. But Ambati Rayudu (28) and Suresh Raina weathered the storm for a bit. During his innings of 19 runs, Suresh Raina, when on 15, became the first batsman to score 5,000 runs in Indian Premier League history.

Yuzvendra Chahal picked 1/6, while Moeen Ali and Mohammed Siraj picked a wicket each. Kedar Jadhav hit 13* to take CSK to the finishing post and won the match by 7 wickets.
