IPL 2019: McCullum hints at retirement from the game after a disappointing snub in the auction

Yeah, all good things do eventually come to an end. It was Brendon McCullum, who kickstarted the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a bang amassing a memorable ton playing for Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy in 2008 in the very first match of the tournament.

But now, inflicting a sense of despair, the former New Zealand skipper failed to attract a single bid during the auction in Jaipur on December 18.

Though, the 37-year-old has learnt how to deal with such disappointments in life as he finds solace in being blessed with a wonderful opportunity for last so many years and looks forward to the infinite future.

"That’s the way things go sometimes. I’ve been very lucky, I’ve had 11 seasons in the IPL and at some stage, you need to transition away from the playing stuff,” said McCullum on Radio Sport, hinting of retirement from all forms of the game soon, "All good things must come to an end, and I was very delighted to see some of the Kiwi boys got picked up."

"I’m certainly not too worried about it; it’s the way the game goes sometimes. I certainly wish the other boys all the best and you never know, you just never know what might unfold in the future."

McCullum, who last featured in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore, tallied 2,881 runs in 109 games with an average of 27.70 at a characteristically astounding strike-rate of 131.61 in the competition history.
