IPL 2019: Zaheer Khan appointed as Mumbai Indians' Director of Cricket operations

The three-time champions have roped in former left-arm pacer for his astounding tactical and technical expertise.

Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been appointed as Mumbai Indians' Director of Cricket operations ahead of the much anticipated 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League(IPL).

The development was officially confirmed on Tuesday, December 18 ahead of the all-important auctions in Jaipur as Zaheer's tactical acumen will once again play a crucial role in three-time champions' decision making.

Zaheer, who was part of the Mumbai Indians during IPL seasons in 2009, 2010 and 2014 and recorded 29 wickets across his 30 games, has been roped in for the wealth of experience he brings as well as his prudent familiarity with franchise's set-up in the past.

Earlier, Mumbai retained 18 players during the retention and release period ensuring continuity with their personal. Rohit Sharma remains the leader of the pack which is filled with allround prowess of Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and the fast bowling excellence of Jasprit Bumrah.

In line with their philosophy of identifying and nurturing the young talents, MI has also reaffirmed faith in Mayank Markande, Rahul Chahar, Anukul Roy, Ishan Kishan, Aditya Tare and Suryakumar Yadav.

While also persisting with Kieron Pollard, Ben Cutting, Evin Lewis, Jason Behrendorff and Kiwi pair of Mitchell McClenaghan and Adam Milne among the overseas contingent.
