IPL 2019: Delhi Daredevils announces new name

Delhi Daredevils has undergone sweeping changes in management recently.

Delhi DaredevilsIndian Premier League franchise Delhi Daredevils had been making waves on social media for the last few days about announcing something big on December 4, 2019, and finally, they have made their big reveal.

The Delhi Daredevils management, in an event in New Delhi, renamed the franchise to Delhi Capitals and also unveiled the new logo of the team.

The team was previously owned by the GMR group, who paid US$84 million for it. In March 2018, GMR sold 50% stake to JSW group for INR 550 crore. The team has had a disappointing history in the league despite making the semifinalists in 2008 and 2009 and into the playoffs in 2012.

Since then, the team has languished in the bottom of the league, something that can be blamed on ill-planned buys in player auctions and frequent chopping and changing in the team combination in the middle of the tournament.

Currently, the team owners have Ricky Ponting as the head coach, Mohammad Kaif as the assistant coach, who also doubles as the talent scout along with Pravin Amre. James Hopes is the bowling coach, while the team is managed by Sunil Valson.

The fans of the franchise have been guessing what the big announcement from the owners are and most of them feel that it is about the rebranding of the team with changes in name, jersey and other things. After the JSW group took over, DD underwent a host of changes, with CEO Hemant Dua leaving his position.
