Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly suggested on Friday (November 16) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Daredevils (DD) to pick Joe Root in the upcoming IPL 2019 auction next month after England skipper slammed a magnificent Test century against Sri Lanka at Pallekele.

Ganguly heaped praise on English right-hander for his exceptional efforts with the bat on "turning square" at the Pallekele International Stadium in the second Test against Sri Lanka on Friday.

With the pitch deteriorating quickly, batting was appeared to be difficult on a spitting surface, but Root proved his mettle against spin by scoring runs with sweeps and reverse sweeps by brilliantly tackling the Lankan spin attack here, as he scored a sublime 15th ton and stitched important partnerships with most of the batsmen to extend England’s chance of sealing the Test series in Sri Lanka.

His eye-catching knock of 124 off 146 balls laced with 10 boundaries and 2 sixes guided England to post a decent total 346 in the second innings on the board to give a healthy challenge to the hosts, eyeing to clinch the Test series in the Asian country after winning Galle Test.

Following Root’s heroic knock at Pallekele, Ganguly has decided to help the Delhi Daredevils co-owner and his very good friend –Parth Jindal out by suggesting Englishman’s form and batting ahead of the Players’ Auction for IPL 2019 next month to solve the franchise's long-standing middle order conundrum in the lucrative T20 tournament.

Ganguly took to Twitter to laud Root's knock at Pallekele and tagged Jindal in his post, which indirectly hinted to pick the England skipper in the IPL auction next month. His post reads, “What a performance from Joe root and England on that surface ..one of the best test hundreds one will see on a pitch which is turning square .. @root66 @ParthJindal11 @ECB_cricket”
