IPL: Delhi Daredevils announces Shikhar Dhawan’s return to home in style

Shikhar Dhawan returns to his home franchise after a decade.

Shikhar Dhawan played for Delhi Daredevils in 2008 season

The player transfer window of the Indian Premier League before the auctions for the 2019 season has borne fruits for Delhi Daredevils as they have brought a player of the highest caliber from Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The player is former SRH captain and one of the most prolific run scorers in IPL, Shikhar Dhawan, who started his career in IPL with Delhi Daredevils, with Delhi being his home state. He played for the franchise in 2008, scoring four fifties and a total of 340 runs in 14 matches.

Since then, Dhawan has gone to record 4058 runs in 143 matches with 32 fifties with a strike rate of 123.32. He has hit 460 fours and 85 sixes in the tournament and has been prolific in Sunrisers Hyderabad winning the IPL in 2016.

Delhi Daredevils have been on a downward trajectory in recent IPL seasons as they have finished in the bottom half of the table since 2013 IPL. The franchise let go of Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma, and Shahbaz Nadeem in order to make money for Shikhar Dhawan.

Last year proved to be a disaster for the Delhi team, at the start because of the Gautam Gambhir fiasco and then failed to make it to the playoffs despite a resurgence under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer.

Delhi Daredevils announced the return of Shikhar Dhawan to the franchise in a tweet captioned, “Brace yourselves, for he has returned, where it all began! Welcome Home, Shikhar Dhawan.
