IPL: Mohammad Kaif likely to join Delhi Daredevils support staff, as per reports

Kaif has previously been assistant coach of Gujarat Lions in IPL 2017.

Mohammad Kaif | AFPFormer India batsman and widely regarded as one of the best fielders in cricket, Mohammad Kaif is likely to become a part of Delhi Daredevils’ support staff, if reports are to be believed.

As per Mumbai Mirror, he will be joining former Australian captain Ricky Ponting in the backroom staff. Ricky Ponting was drafted in as head coach after Rahul Dravid stepped down before IPL 2018, to avoid conflict of interest row as he was associated with India A and U-19 team.

Kaif was previously appointed as the assistant coach of the Gujarat Lions in IPL 2017 alongside Brad Hodge. On July 13 this year, on the 16th anniversary of India’s memorable win over England in Natwest Series final, Kaif decided to call it quits. He is already a renowned cricket expert and commentator.

Mohammad Kaif played a total of 186 first-class, 269 List A and 75 T20s. He made his international debut in a Test against South Africa in 2000 while his ODI debut came against England in 2002. In 13 Tests, he scored 624 runs whereas, in 125 ODIs, he fetched 2753 runs.
