IPL: BCCI sets November 15 deadline for franchises to submit list of players they want to release

Rajasthan Royals' Jaydev Unadkat | AFPThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises to submit their list of players whom they want to release by November 15, before the start of next year’s tournament, as per reports in Mumbai Mirror.

As per the rule, a player is bought for three years but franchises can release any player after a season if they want. They also have an option of releasing players while the season is on. IPL franchises are expected to release underperforming players ahead of the next season.

As for big names that might get released ahead of IPL 2019, Gautam Gambhir is being touted as the biggest name of all, given that he gave up Delhi Daredevils’ captaincy mid-season in IPL 2018 and was benched for the rest of the season. It looked like he himself backed out from participating in the games.

"I never dropped myself from the playing XI. If that was the case I would’ve announced my retirement as well," Gambhir had told ABP news.

In other names that are likely to be released, Jaydev Unadkat, who was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 11.50 crore, and Manish Pandey, who was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 11 Crore, might also be cut from their respective franchises.
