There is a lot of buzz surrounding around the second T20I between India and West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram as the fans expect local lad Sanju Samson to feature in the playing XI.

Samson played his last and only T20I in 2015 against Zimbabwe, in which he had scored 19 off 24 balls. He was part of the squad in the T20I series against Bangladesh last month but didn't get a chance as Rishabh Pant donned the keeping gloves in all three games.

In fact, Sanju was initially overlooked for the ongoing West Indies series before Shikhar Dhawan’s untimely injury presented him with another opportunity to be a part of the Indian dressing room.

"We are sure that even though KL Rahul had a good outing yesterday, our young man, Sanju will be in the playing XI tomorrow, as he can bat in any position. Our only concern is will we get a full 20 over game as rain is predicted tomorrow also," a group of young cricket fans in Thiruvananthapuram quoted as saying by IANS.

Pitch curator Biju, however, is confident that with an exceptional drainage system in place, all that he requires is just 30 minutes for play to resume even if it receives a downpour.

"There are 3500 pipes that are placed under the turf and the moment the water goes down, it's immediately taken out. Even if it rains tomorrow during the match, just 30 minutes is needed for the play to re-start the match," he said.

This is the third international match being held in Thiruvananthapuram’s Greenfield International. The first one against New Zealand in 2017 was reduced to an eight-over-a-side contest and the next one was last year with West Indies when the ODI was reduced to 20 overs, both because of heavy rains and the situation on Sunday (December 8) could also be the same.
