IND v WI 2019: WATCH - Virat Kohli reveals why he wrote a 'notebook' to Kesrick Williams

Indian captain Virat Kohli took out his 'notebook' on Friday to pay-off some old debts he incurred on West Indies tour in 2017. Kohli played a gem of an innings against West Indies at Hyderabad in the first T20I. He scored 94* runs to help India chase down the target of 208 in the 19th over.

Virat was smashing the visitors for fun after getting his eyes set. He once looked out-of-touch in the first phase of his innings. But fans expected him to come out stronger and regain his touch soon.

Not only Kohli guided India home and showed high-class batting, but he also avenged his see-off in Jamaica. West Indies pacer Kesrick Williams has a famous 'notebook' celebration after taking a wicket. Kohli was at the receiving end of it after being dismissed by Williams during the 2017 tour.

But Virat showed who's the king. He took out the notebook to give it back to Kesrick after smashing him for a six in the 16th over.

"It's not the CPL (about Williams' celebration), it happened to me in Jamaica when he got me out. So I thought I'll tick a few in the notebook as well, but all good. There were a few words, but smiles at the end. That's what you want to see. Good competitive cricket but in the end shake hands and give a hi-fi. That's what cricket is all about. Play it hard but have respect for opponents," Kohli said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Kohli explained his purpose in every innings, which is not to go for a six every ball.

"The aim is not to play slam-bang cricket. One of Rohit (Sharma) or I have to play long in this team," Kohli said.

"That's the role I play in every team I play in. Basic fundamental is that I don't want to change my game too much for T20s. I'm an all-format player. I just want to score runs every game," Kohli added.

Virat and KL Rahul (62) stitched up a partnership of 100 runs for the second wicket. India eventually won the match in 18.4 overs.
