The West Indies side faced defeat to the Indians in all three formats when they played as hosts in August. New skipper Kieron Pollard believes that they need to find more ways to tackle the strong Indian bowling attack.

The Men in Maroon had been whitewashed when Team India toured the Caribbean islands for T20I, ODI and Test series. This time, the West Indians will find it even tougher given that India will have the home advantage and the winning momentum has well. Their recent T20I series loss to Afghanistan won’t help them either.

Pollard told IANS, “Indian pace attack has been doing really well. They are the number one team, it is a good opportunity for us to face the number one ranked side, we cannot take much into that and we need to do our thing. We need to try to find ways to tackle the attack. We are not focused on individuals.

He also talked about the new comers to their side who don’t have a lot of experience at the international level and how they need to be set up at this stage.

We need to back these young guys as we have seen their talent and attitude. Exciting times ahead for the youngsters, we have a lot of young talent, it is just about easing them into the world of international cricket. Sometimes you need to be honest with yourselves and protect them from the vultures who are out there to bring them down,” he added.

The West Indies side will dearly miss the likes of Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo. It will not be easy for them to fill those big shoes in so little time to fight against the Indian team. However, they are ready with whatever they have and are confident of their preparations.

The 32-year-old said, “You do not want to have players trying to fill in the gaps of senior players. For us, Russell, Narine and Bravo are big gaps, but as a team, we have selected 15 players to do a job here. We back each and every player, when these senior players become available for selection, we can have a discussion about it. It is what it is, we have moved on from that and we know the reasons why they are not here.
