West Indies has stormed back into the ongoing five-match One Day International series by leveling up the series by winning the third ODI by 43 runs in Pune to leave the Indian Team Management in a dilemma over the playing XI for the next ODI to be played on October 29 in Mumbai.

Kedar Jadhav is back in the playing XI for the Mumbai ODI and can provide balance with his part-time bowling, but former Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar feels that Virat Kohli should have gone ahead with a pure batsman after captain hinted at the resting a bowler for the all-rounder for the fourth ODI.

Vengsarkar, a former chairman of selectors, further went on to claim that India can’t go in with two wicketkeepers in the playing XI. He told reporters, “They can’t have two wicket-keepers in the team. The selection of the playing XI has not been up to the mark.”

On being asked to pick between Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni for the Mumbai ODI, Vengsarkar put the responsibility on the team management, saying former Indian captain would have been an automatic choice but he has come under pressure due to his current poor show with the bat.

Vengsarkar signed off by saying, “Dhoni has been one of India’s greatest cricketers and finest captains. (But) everybody goes through this phase. He is fit but his form is suspect. That is because he doesn’t play all the formats and doesn’t play domestic cricket as well. It is tough to straightaway come and play international cricket.”
