Virat Kohli's rich vein of form continued on Saturday (October 27) as he became the first Indian batsman to hit three consecutive hundreds in ODI cricket.

Chasing West Indies’ target of 284 in the third ODI in Pune, India lost the in-form Rohit Sharma for just 8. However, skipper Kohli was at his usual best. At first, Kohli forged a 79-run stand with Shikhar Dhawan (35) to bail the hosts out of trouble and then followed it with a 47-run partnership with Ambati Rayudu (22).

Even though India continued to lost wickets at regular intervals, Virat’s scoring rate didn’t take any beating as he notched up his third straight ODI century in the series and 38th overall in the 50-over format. The Indian captain eventually perished for 107 off Marlon Samuels’ bowling. His innings was laced with 10 boundaries and 1 six.

Lauding Kohli’s unwavering batting exhibition in this series, former Indian cricketer and now a commentator Aakash Chopra posted a tweet praising the batsman’s consistency.

In reply, former England batsman Nick Compton took a dig at Kohli’s consistency. Compton, who has played 16 Tests for England, commented on Chopra’s tweet saying, “Against the West Indies?”

Afterwards, there is a war of words that went on between Compton and the fuming Indian fans, with many of them sharing the Englishman’s stats in international cricket.

Aakash Chopra, however, didn’t like the response from his country’s fans as he urged them to argue with Compton’s thought rather than bringing his career stats. Chopra also told the ex-England opener that his comments were ‘not in good taste’.

It is worth mentioning here that Kohli had scored 140 in the first ODI in Guwahati, while he made an unbeaten 157* in the second ODI in Vizag. En route to his 37th ODI ton in Vizag, Virat had surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record to become the quickest to reach 10,000 ODI runs. While Tendulkar had taken 259 innings to achieve this milestone, Kohli accomplished the same in 54 lesser innings than the Master Blaster.
