IND v WI 2018: WATCH – Chris Gayle’s heart-warming message for Virat Kohli on reaching the 10000-run mark in ODIs

Kohli became the fastest batsman to reach the 10,000-run mark in the one-day internationals on Wednesday.

Virat Kohli became the fifth Indian batsman to reach the 10,000-run mark in the one-day internationals on Wednesday. He smashed an unbeaten 157 off 129 deliveries in the second ODI against the West Indies in Vizag and in the process completed 10,000 runs in the 50-over format.

En route his 37th ODI ton, The Indian captain broke a plethora of records. Virat surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record to become the quickest to reach 10,000 ODI runs. While Tendulkar had taken 259 innings to achieve this milestone, Kohli accomplished the same in 54 lesser innings than the Master Blaster.

Virat needed 81 to reach 10,000 ODI runs and the numero uno Test and ODI batsman pushed Ashley Nurse for a single to enter the elite club. Moreover, the 29-year-old lad also completed 1000 ODI runs in a calendar for the sixth time. Virat became the quickest to score 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year as he managed the feat in just 11 innings and bettered the record held jointly by him and Hashim Amla with 15.

Congratulating Kohli on this monumental achievement, Swashbuckling West Indies batsman Chris Gayle said that the Indian captain has proved anything can be accomplished with hard work and dedication. He also wished more success to Kohli in the future.

“Firstly, I would love to congratulate him. 10000 runs is such a big milestone and he is the fastest to it as well. I must say well done, it is a great achievement and I continue to wish him more success. This shows that what all hard work and dedication can get you, what rewards it can get you. I am sure a lot of people will follow his footsteps, in India and around the world,” Gayle said in a video posted by CricketNext.

It is worth mentioning here that Kohli and Gayle share a very healthy rapport. Gayle has played under Kohli’s captaincy in the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
