IND v WI 2018: 2nd Test, Day 2- India ends day on 308/4 with another Shaw and Pant show

Umesh Yadav picked a career best 6/88.

Umesh Yadav picked a Test best 6/88 agains Windies | APThe second day of the second Test between India and West Indies started with Roston Chase completing his fourth Test hundred and Umesh Yadav then finishing off the tail of Windies team, picking up a career-best 6/88 in process.

West Indies was dismissed for 311 runs and they started well with the ball as well, with Jason Holder removing KL Rahul for 25-ball 4 run innings. It was his second failure in as many Tests and puts a question mark on the trust shown by the selectors in him.

Cheteshwar Pujara was also dismissed for 10 runs, but the star of the show in the first half was Prithvi Shaw who smacked the Windies bowlers to all parts of the ground in his 53-ball 70 with 11 fours and one six. He hit Shannon Gabriel to all parts of the Hyderabad ground and was looking good for his second Test hundred before he played a rash shot and got out.

Ajinkya Rahane remains unbeaten on 75* | AFP Holder then removed a well-settled Virat Kohli (45) to a marginal LBW DRS call. However, that was the last Indian wicket Windies got for the day, as vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (75* in 124 balls with 6 fours) and Rishabh Pant (85* in 120 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes) thwarted any attempts by Windies bowlers to gain an advantage in their 146* partnership for the fifth wicket.

Pant, in particular, was severe on anything bowled in his arc of hitting and Rahane complimented him well. India ended the day on 308/4 with both Pant and Rahane returning unbeaten.

West Indies would rue their dismal fielding efforts, as substitute wicketkeeper Hamilton dropped Pant and in general, the fielding was abysmal with sparks of brilliance.
