IND v WI 2018: 2nd Test, Day 1 – Roston Chase 98* and Jason Holder 52 take Windies to 295/7

West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first. Jomel Warrican and Jason Holder came back into the playing XI for the Windies. For India, Shardul Thakur made his debut in Tests in place of Mohammad Shami.

However, his first day of debut Test ended after bowling just 10 balls as he left the field with physio with a groin injury. R Ashwin dismissed Kieran Powell for 22 and Kuldeep removed Brathwaite with Umesh dismissing Shai Hope for 36, West Indies were left 86/3.

Kuldeep then removed Hetmyer and Ambris, before Umesh removed Dowrich. But Roston Chase (98*) and Jason Holder (52) held the fort with a 104-run partnership for 7th wicket. Both looked in total control during their partnership and it was only Umesh, who bowled his heart out after losing Shardul, removed Holder to a leg-side catch to Pant.

Chase was left agonizingly close to his century as umpires closed the day’s play after India bowled 95 overs.

For India, Umesh Yadav (3/83) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/74) were the pick of bowlers, with Ashwin taking the wicket of Powell.
