Young pace gun Shardul Thakur has been included in the much-debated India playing XI for the second and final Test against the West Indies in Hyderabad on Friday (October 12). It was really a proud day for him as he becomes the 294th player to represent his country in Tests.
However, Thakur would not like to remember this debut match for a long time, as his much-awaited Test debut turned into a nightmare when he had to leave the field due to a groin strain after bowling only 10 deliveries in the Day 1 of the final Test in Hyderabad.
Thakur has been taken for scans and will not be able to join the team on the first Day of the final Test, while his availability in the match is yet to be ascertained.
A statement from the team reads, “Shardul Thakur has gone for scans. He will not take the field today. An update on his participation for the rest of the Test will be taken after looking at the scans and after being assessed by the team management.”

The 26-year-old hobbled off the field with discomfort around the right groin region, which hinted at a possible deterioration of the injury that he sustained in the Asia Cup 2018, where Thakur complained of "right hip and groin soreness" after the game against Hong Kong.
It was all happened during the fourth over of West Indies’ innings when Thakur delivered his 10th ball and the speedster looked to be in considerable pain as he started hobbling.

Physio Patrick Farhart came on to the field to assess the debutant and he feels like a groin strain, later Thakur began walking towards the dressing room.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin bowled the last two deliveries and completed Thakur’s over, while the extent of Thakur’s injury and his further participation in the match will be decided after the scan report.

Noteworthy, Thakur was first named in the Test squad in 2016 against the same team and since then he has been a backup pacer for more than two years, but finally, he got the nod for the Hyderabad Test when he replaced Mohammed Shami, who has been rested for the match.
