IND v WI 2018: 1st Test, Day 2- Jadeja, Kohli centuries and quick wickets keep India ahead; WI 94/6

Virat Kohli completed his 1,000 runs in Tests in 2018; while Jadeja got his maiden century.

Pant was looking good for his second Test century but got out for 92 | AFPIndia started day two with Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant going after the Windies bowlers with gusto. Immediately the tempo changed as Pant started bludgeoning Windies bowlers.

Pant raced off to 92 off 84 bowlers with 8 fours and 4 sixes, while Kohli took his time to reach his 24th century in Tests off 184 balls and 7 fours. Pant was caught by Paul off Bishoo as he tried to hit a googly towards long on.

Then came in Ravindra Jadeja who looked determined to contribute with the bat given his good run in the Asia Cup and the final Test in England, where he scored 86.  The duo added 64 runs before Kohli got out for 139 caught by Bishoo off Lewis, going for quick runs.

Ashwin (7) and Kuldeep (12) tried to stay with Jadeja as India looked for quick runs. But Jadeja got support from Umesh Yadav and the duo added 55 runs, with Jadeja making his 50 off 87 balls. He shepherded the tail in Umesh and Shami well enough and reached his maiden Test century and that too on his home in Rajkot off 132 balls (5 fours and 5 sixes).

India scored 649/9 and Kohli declared the innings as soon as Jadeja reached his century.

Mohammad Shami removed both the openers cheaply | APWindies captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieron Powell opened the innings and the team was hoping for a good start. But Mohammad Shami removed both the openers in quick succession, clean bowling Brathwaite and trapping Powell LBW.

Then came the spinners’ turn as Ashwin removed Hope for 10, Hetmyer ran himself out for 10, Ambris was caught by Rahane off Jadeja and Kuldeep cleaning Dowrich for 10. This left West Indies hanging on a thread at 94/6 at the end of the second day with Roston Chase on 27* and Keemo Paul at 13*.

India leads the first innings by 555 runs and Windies find themselves in a big trouble in the first innings itself with three days of the Test remaining.
