IND v WI 2018: Mark Waugh calls Prithvi Shaw combination of Lara and Tendulkar after debut Test century

Prithvi Shaw became the 15th Indian to score a century on Test debut.

Prithvi Shaw | AFP India handed a Test cap to 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw in the first Test against West Indies at Rajkot, making him the 293rd Test player for India. The teenage batsman has had a brilliant career so far and has been compared to the great Sachin Tendulkar also.

Shaw, who has won the U19 World Cup in New Zealand in January this year, has also scored centuries on his Ranji debut and Duleep Trophy debuts. A lot was expected of him on his Test debut and he came good with a brilliant 99-ball century, the third fastest on debut behind Dwayne Smith and Shikhar Dhawan.

Mark Waugh scored a century on his Test debut as well Shaw became the second youngest Indian to score a century and 4th youngest in Tests to make a debut century. His innings came to an end on 134 off 154 balls with 19 fours, when he handed a catch back to Devendra Bishoo on the stroke of tea.

Replying to this tweet, Former Australia opener Mark Waugh also shared his opinion. Waugh, who himself scored a Test hundred on debut and played 128 Tests and 244 ODIs for Australia, said that he saw shades of two of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket; India’s Sachin Tendulkar and West Indian legend Brian Lara.
