Rohit Sharma on Saturday (September 29) was snubbed from India's 15-member squad for the two-match Test series against the West Indies, starting on October 4.

Virat Kohli, who was rested for the just-concluded Asia Cup after the daunting England tour, will be leading India in the Test series with Ajinkya Rahane playing the role of his deputy.

Soon after the announcement of the Test squad, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly expressed his displeasure over Rohit’s exclusion. Taking to Twitter, Ganguly also lauded the Rohit-led Indian cricket team for clinching the Asia Cup 2018 by beating Bangladesh in a thrilling final.

“Great win Rohit and the team @ImRo45 ..u were exceptional...I get surprised every time I don’t see ur name in the test team ..it’s not far away ..” Ganguly tweeted.

Rohit played the last of his 25 Tests against South Africa in January 2018. Sharma was preferred over Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane in the playing XI against the Proteas but he couldn’t quite prove his mettle. Rohit had recorded the scores of 10, 11, 10 and 47, which in turn saw him being dropped for the third Test at Wanderers.

Besides Rohit, opener Shikhar Dhawan was also axed from the squad for the home Test series against West Indies. Dhawan had performed miserably during the five-Test series against England.

Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal have been named in the squad for the two-Test series against Windies.

While Rajkot will host the first Test between India and West Indies from October 4, the second Test will be played in Hyderabad from October 12.

India squad for the West Indies Test series:

Virat Kohli (captain), KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), R shwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur.
