South Africa opener Dean Elgar on Monday (October 21) received a painful blow to his helmet off India pacer Umesh Yadav during the second innings of the third Test in Ranchi.

India captain Virat Kohli enforced the follow-on after bundling out the visitors for just 162 in the first innings in response to his team's mammoth 497/9(declared). The Proteas were soon reduced to 22/4 after Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Shami bamboozled them again.

Elgar miscalculated Umesh's bouncer and it hit him brutally on the right side of his head. The southpaw immediately sat down on the ground as India's players surrounded him while South Africa's physio ran up to check him.

The umpires then decided to take early tea with the visitors 26/4, staring at another innings defeat to complete a 3-0 hammering.

It was later confirmed by television commentator Graeme Smith that Elgar won't be coming out to bat feeling concussed after the blow and has been replaced by Theunis de Bruyn for the innings.

Elgar scored a memorable hundred in the first innings of the first Test in Visakhapatnam and is South Africa's highest run-getter of the series with 232 runs at an average of 38.67 in six innings.
