After scoring a quickfire 91 in India’s first innings of the ongoing second Test against South Africa, Ravindra Jadeja has said that he is now a "proper all-rounder" who's confident of contributing at every opportunity he gets with the bat and the ball.

Promoted to No. 6 with Hanuma Vihari not playing, Jadeja shared a 225-run stand for the fifth wicket skipper Virat Kohli (254 not out) to help India pile up a colossal 601/5 (declared) in the first dig in Pune.

It was Jadeja’s 12th half-century in red-ball cricket apart from the one ton that he got against the West Indies last year. He now averages 34.42 with the bat in Tests and certainly provides a balance to the No.1 side while forming the playing XI.

"I see myself as a proper all-rounder who can take any opportunity, it doesn't matter whether it's bowling or batting," Jadeja said an interview to bcci.tv ahead of the third day's play in Pune.

"I need to give everything whether I am bowling [or batting.] If I am bowling, I need to take wickets, and if I am batting, I need to score in every innings. So, I don't see whether I am a batting all-rounder or a bowling all-rounder," he added.

Talking about his evolution, Jadeja attributed it to the consistent opportunities he's been getting.

"I can say that I'm getting better opportunities," Jadeja said. "If I'm batting at No. 6, I get long time to spend in the middle. Whenever I go into bat, I just look to spend some time and then I start to play my shots. That's helped me a lot."

With the ball, Jadeja claimed the wicket of Senuran Muthusamy as India bowled out South Africa for 275, taking a massive first innings lead of 326 runs.

The left-arm spinner was the star with the ball in the first Test at Vizag, taking 6 wickets across the two innings to help the hosts win the contest by 203 runs.
