South Africa left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj picked up a shoulder strain while diving to save runs in his over during India’s first innings on Day 2 of the second Test in Pune. 

Maharaj, now it is learnt via a report in ESPNcricinfo, was then taken off the field as a precautionary measure as the Proteas medical staff ensured he went through a few scans on his shoulder. 

As per an update, Maharaj remains unfit, though will come out to bat if required with South Africa struggling badly in response to India's mammoth 601/5 (declared). 

The Proteas will continue to monitor the 29-year-old's discomfort throughout the rest of the match and will make a call whether he is ready to bowl the second time around or not. 

Having arrived in India with a big reputation, Maharaj failed badly in the first Test in Vizag where South Africa suffered a 203-run defeat. And again, gave away almost 200 runs in the 50 overs he bowled in the first innings in Pune with only one wicket to show for his effort. 

Maharaj eventually had to come out and bat with his team in a precarious situation.
