Gambhir termed Rohit not only as the most dangerous player in the world but also the best.

Rohit Sharma justified his elevation as a Test opener by slamming two classy centuries in the series opener against South Africa in Visakhapatnam.

He followed up his majestic 176 in the first innings with an equally brilliant 127 in the second dig. With this herculean effort, Rohit became the first-ever batsman to score hundreds in each innings of his maiden Test as an opener.

He also became the 6th Indian to score twin tons in a Test match, joining Vijay Hazare (1), Sunil Gavaskar (3), Rahul Dravid (2), Virat Kohli (1) and Ajinkya Rahane (1) in the elite list.

It was a record-breaking outing for Rohit as he smashed 13 sixes in the Test to set a new world record. The stylish right-hander surpassed Wasim Akram’s tally of 12 sixes which the former Pakistan captain had hit against Zimbabwe way back in 1996.

Following his heroics in both the innings, ex-India opener Gautam Gambhir hailed Rohit not only as the most dangerous player in the world but also the best.

“@ImRo45 the most dangerous player in the world….the best as well,” he tweeted.

The way Gambhir has taken shots at Virat Kohli’s captaincy lately, fans felt the cricketer-turned-politician is again taking a dig at the Indian skipper by terming his limited-overs deputy as the best in the world.

Kohli is widely regarded as the best batsman in the world given his sheer dominance across all formats. The Indian captain is the only batsman in the world to boast an average of over 50 in all three formats of cricket. Moreover, Virat has 68 international centuries to his name as compared to Rohit’s 36 and also enjoys a lead in the Test, ODI and T20I runs tally.
