IND v SA 2019: Perfect platform for youngsters to gain confidence for T20 World Cup, says Dhawan

India will face South Africa in the third and final T20I at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday (September 22).

Ahead of the final game of the three-match T20I series against South Africa in Bangalore, veteran India opener Shikhar Dhawan said that the time is perfect for youngsters such as Washington Sundar and Deepak Chahar to gain confidence in the lead-up to next year’s T20 World Cup down under.

Both the players played a key role in India’s convincing seven-wicket over South Africa in the second T20I at Mohali on Wednesday (September 18). Chahar was the stand-out bowler for the hosts, claiming two wickets by conceding only 22 runs in his stipulated 4 overs while Sundar gave away just 19 runs in his 3 overs as India restricted the visitors to 149/5 in 20 overs.

During the West Indies tour last month, Chahar and Sundar had also impressed with their performance and attitude.

"Washington is bowling really good, giving us the breakthroughs and also choking the batsmen. He has got very good control and variety as well.

"Even Deepak Chahar, he swings the ball both ways and at the same has pace as well. It is the perfect platform for them to perform and build the confidence for the T20 World Cup," Dhawan told reporters on the eve of the match.

The southpaw, who scored 40 off 31 balls in the Mohali T20I to help India chase down the target with an over to spare, also added that seniors in the team are always open to help the youngsters.

"For senior players like us, say someone like Rishabh comes in to bat or Shreyas coming in, we make sure we do the communication with them and make sure they are comfortable and not nervous. We make them think what is needed at that particular moment," he said.

“That's what we do even when I am batting with Rohit or Virat, we keep discussing and that is very important. Communication is very, very important. Any time any youngster wants to discuss something with us, we are always there for them."
