IND v SA 2019: Bowlers are there to "spoil the party" for batsmen in T20s, says Tabraiz Shamsi

The pressure is on batsmen, not the bowlers while playing T20 cricket, said South Africa wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, who delivered a decent spell of 1/19 in his team's seven-wicket defeat against India in the second game of the ongoing T20I series on Wednesday in Mohali.

"I feel it puts all the more pressure on the batsman to go out there and do what people want to see. So as bowlers, we are just there to spoil the party and make sure that we execute our plans well," Shamsi, with 17 ODIs and 15 T20Is for the Proteas behind him, was quoted as saying by PTI

Shamsi, now a veteran in the shortest format of the game, is looking forward to the last match in Bangalore this Sunday (September 22). The iconic Chinnaswamy stadium there is special for the 29-year-old as it was his home ground while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL a couple of seasons back.

"Chinnaswamy is a small stadium and I mean it's a T20 series, so people obviously are coming there to see batsmen hit fours and sixes. They are not there to see you bowl a maiden over and that's what it's all about," he said.

Shamsi said time spent in the RCB set-up has helped him improve a lot as a cricketer. "Definitely, it helps when you are around speaking to world-class players like Virat, Gayle and Shane Watson. The world of cricket is shrinking in the sense that everyone is ready to share knowledge."

"You will find senior South African fast bowlers imparting knowledge to Indian fast bowlers and vice-versa. Being familiar with surroundings while playing for RCB will certainly help," he added.
