IND v NZ 2023: WATCH- Washington Sundar’s excellent one-handed return catch sends Mark Chapman packing for 0

India won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Washington Sundar | BCCIAfter winning the ODI series 3-0, Team India clashed in the first of the three ODIs against New Zealand on January 27, 2023, which is hosted by JSCA Stadium in Ranchi. The Indian squad is led by Hardik Pandya keeping with the BCCI’s intent to have youngsters in the shortest format.

Pandya started off well as he won the toss and chose to bowl first against New Zealand, which is being captained by Mitchell Santner in absence of Williamson. Southee and Latham.

India picked Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav as their frontline spinners, while Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Mavi are the pacers. Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan are set to open the innings.

Finn Allen, who was basically struggling to score during the ODI series, went after the wayward Indian bowling at the start as both Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh tried to swing the ball and bowled full.

He slammed 35 runs in 23 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes before Washington Sundar, in the 5th over of the innings, got him to hit towards the leg side and had him caught by Suryakumar Yadav at deep mid-wicket.

Mark Chapman, batting for the first time, took his time as he negotiated some sharp turn from Sundar. But on the last ball of the over, tried to defend a straight ball, which dipped onto him and only managed to hit it in the air far right of Sundar.

Sundar anticipated the ball well and moved to his right and dived full length to catch the ball one-handed and slid on the ground to come up with an amazing catch.

Chapman couldn’t open his account and had to walk back for a duck after the TV umpire also confirmed that the catch was clean and flashed his decision on the big screen.
